Karaman Kutateladze – It’s Absurd As if “Black Lion” Was Officially Purchased From Us

Karaman Kutateladze – It’s Absurd As if “Black Lion” Was Officially Purchased From Us Karaman Kutateladze denies the information that current owner of Niko Pirosmani’s painting “Black Lion” was officially purchased from Kutateladzes .
As InterPressNews was told by Apolon Kutateladze’s son, after the painting was stolen in 1993, they have not seen the painting and nobody has attempted to officially buy the painting.
“Many people visited us regarding the painting, but I have not seen the painting after it had been stolen and it is absurd to say as if someone officially bought it. If they are so honest, why do they conceal their identity? Who owns the painting now?” Kutateladze said.
Karaman Kutateladze criticizes organizers of the antique salon of Moscow central house of Painters. “If it is such a serious salon and they often exhibit paintings, why didn’t they show interest in the origins of the painting? Was it so difficult to learn that the painting belonged to the family of Apolon Kutateladze before being stolen?” Karaman Kutateladze said.
Acting head of “Rosakhrankultur” Viktor Petrakov said on 18 April that Niko Pirosmani’s painting “Black Lion” belongs to the current owner on legal basis. He said that the owner purchased the painting from the family of Kutateladze.
TV channel “Rossia 24” reported about antique exhibits. “Black Lion” was among the exhibits.
