Strasbourg Court to declare verdict on Vano Merabishvili’s case on November 28
15:50 02-11-2017
Strasbourg Court to declare verdict on Vano Merabishvili’s case on November 28 The date when verdict of Strasbourg Court on former Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili’s case is scheduled to be declared has been known.

As Merabishvili’s lawyer Otar Kakhidze has posted on the social net, the decision will be declared at 11:30 local time on November 28.

According to Kakhidze, the case refers to the 18th article of European Convention that envisages illegal and political imprisonment.

‘The court section found out in June 2016 that Merabishvili was illegally taken out of the cell in order to pressure him. The prosecutor violated the law and PM and Minister of Corrections did not pay any special attention to the issue. The court also emphasized the political context comparing the case to Timoshenko’s and Lutsenko’s cases,’ Kakhidze says.

According to him the Georgian government appealed the decision to the Big Chamber of the Strasbourg Court last year.
