Roads Department Head rules out construction of so-called Avareti-Kakheti road
18:49 17-07-2017
Roads Department Head rules out construction of so-called Avareti-Kakheti road Head of Georgia’s Roads Department Giorgi Seturidze says construction of the so-called Avareti-Kakheti road is absolutely ruled out.

The Dagestan Construction Agency has published a video reflecting construction of a road at Vantliashevski pass. The road crosses several regions of Dagestan and there is a point of view that the construction is implemented within the framework of the Avareti-Kakheti road project.

But as Seturidze maintains, there has been no dialogue, let alone any decision concerning the issue with Russia.

‘The only route to Russia legally is Larsi Checkpoint and the government plans to spend hundreds of millions in this respect in 3-4 years. It is and will be the main road connecting Georgia with Russia. At present we are working on the Devodorak Tunnel that costs up to 50 million USD. We are also drafting a project for the tunnel below Jvari pass that will cost approximately 250 million USD,’ he has remaked.

According to Seturidze, road infrastructure from Zhinvali to Kvesheti and from Kobi to Larsi may be improved.

‘As for the Avareti-Kakheti road we have not heard even rumors about it,’ he has added.
