Georgian side to negotiate with EU states on putting Georgia on list of secure countries for reducing number of asylum seekers
11:29 16-02-2018
Georgian side to negotiate with EU states on putting Georgia on list of secure countries for reducing number of asylum seekers In order to reduce the number of asylum seekers, the Georgian side is holding negotiations with EU member states, including Germany, on the issue of putting Georgia on the list of secure countries.

As InterPressNews was told by Tamar Khulordava, the Chairman of the Committee on European Integration, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs will hold a meeting in Germany on this issue next week.

"Negotiations are practically underway with all the EU countries. Of course, we are working with Germany. As you know, elections took place in Germany and this caused some delay. Next week, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs will visit Germany. As far as I know, the Minister's visit is also being prepared. So our cooperation is very active," Khulordava said.

As a reminder, the Government of Georgia intends to tighten measures to prevent increase in the number of asylum seekers in the EU countries. In particular, it is planned to make legislative amendments in order to introduce a range of preventive measures.
