Government works on prevention of abuse of visa-free travel rules
11:37 16-02-2018
Government works on prevention of abuse of visa-free travel rules The Government continues to work on relevant legislative initiatives aimed at preventing the abuse of visa-free travel rules and asylum procedures, - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia told InterPressNews.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, considering the importance of the issue, additional consultations are being held with European partners.

"Georgia has already been taken by some EU countries into the category of safe countries, taking into consideration the current state of democracy and human rights in our country. Efforts on this issue are naturally going on with all our partners, but the issue is to be individually solved by a partner country and is not negotiated through bilateral negotiations. It should also be taken into consideration that the part of the EU states does not have any criteria for such categorization of countries", - the Foreign Ministry said.

As a reminder, the Government of Georgia intends to tighten measures to prevent increase in the number of asylum seekers in the EU countries. In particular, it is planned to make legislative amendments in order to introduce a range of preventive measures.
