17:30 24-06-2018
New draft law on "energy efficiency of buildings" will presumably be adopted by Georgian Parliament The Parliament of Georgia may adopt a law on "energy efficiency of buildings". The draft law was prepared by the Ministry of Economics and Sustainable Development of Georgia. It will be submitted to the parliament's bureau at the nearest sitting.
The draft aims to promote energy efficiency, which, according to the initiators' explanation, will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and bring many other positive results, including new jobs in the construction sector, development and innovation of technology, reduction ofair, water and soil pollution, reduction of taxes on energy consumption and etc.
The law allows the use of high efficiency alternative systems in designing a new building or reconstruction of a building if it is functionally, ecologically and economically feasible.
In addition, one of the important novelties of the project is nearly zero-energy buildings. According to the draft law, since 2029 all new buildings must meet the requirements of "nearly zero-energy buildings ".
Th draft is initiated by the government.
