Tbilisi City Court has sentenced former Prime Minister and leader of the “Gakharia for Georgia” party, Giorgi Gakharia, to imprisonment in absentia in connection with the June 20 protest case.

“I advise everyone to immediately start taking care to hire qualified lawyers,” said Davit Usupashvili, one of the leaders of Lelo - Strong Georgia, speaking about the launch of criminal proceedings against Georgia’s former Prime Minister and For Georgia party leader, Giorgi Gakharia.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, in connection with the events of October 4 — involving the attempted group seizure of a strategic facility, organization and leadership of group violence, participation in such violence, and public incitement to overthrow the constitutional order or state authority through violence — the process of clarifying charges is underway against 64 defendants.
