The election campaign was full of hatred, insult and harassment of Presidential candidate Salome Zourabichvili, - First Deputy Chairman of the Parliament, Tamar Chugoshvili said at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

The parliamentary delegation headed by Tamar Chugoshvili is in Strasbourg, where the Winter Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is underway. Debates about Georgia’s presidential elections will be held today.

The First Deputy Chairman of the Parliament talked about the presidential elections and election campaign in Georgia.

She thanked members of the Assembly for observing the elections and issuing recommendations. Tamar Chugoshvili emphasized that the Georgian side is taking into view the recommendations.

She once again noted that the elections were special because Georgia chose a first female president, which was unprecedented not only in our country, but in the entire region.

According to Tamar Chugoshvili, the election campaign was full of hatred towards the presidential candidate and the worst forms of insult were used by the partner of the European People's Party towards the female candidate.

"Despite the positive results of the elections, we learned some lessons in the process and saw some sad dynamics. Unfortunately, this campaign was full of hatred. It was full of insult and harassment against female candidate Salome Zourabichvili.

This week, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe started campaign against harassment. We watched a video about what women are going through in politics. The worst forms of harassment were used by opposition, which is the partner of the European People's Party (EPP). I would like to ask my colleagues from the EPP - please pay attention to how your partner party treated the female candidate, how the media owned by your partner party treated the female candidate. The level of hate speech, harassment and insult was unimaginable," head of the Permanentary Delegation of the Parliament of Georgia said.
