Mamuka Bakhtadze: Society and each of us should have a feeling that there are objective criteria and procedures for the selection of judges

The court is an independent branch, but at the same time, the society and each of us should have a feeling that there are objective criteria and procedures for the selection of judges, - Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze said in response to Georgian journalists’ questions in Vilnius.

According to the head of the government, the position of the ruling political team is very clear and principle - everyone should be involved in the determination of criteria and procedures for the selection of judges.

"As for the government's involvement, I have repeatedly made very direct statements about it. The time when the government, prime minister, or senior officials were selecting judges in court or were settling cases is over in Georgia. Such a thing will not happen in Georgia.

Of course, the court is an independent branch, but at the same time, the society and each of us should have a feeling that there are objective criteria and procedures for the selection of judges. This is our political team’s position and we have a very direct dialogue with the public about this issue, "- Mamuka Bakhtadze said.
