Pascal Meunier: We hope that we will not have to take measures to bring the visa regime back

We hope that we will not have to take measures to bring the visa regime back, which would affect honest citizens, - Ambassador of France to Georgia Pascal Meunier told InterPresNews in response to a question regarding the right to work granted to Georgian citizens.

According to the ambassador, the mentioned right applies to students and persons with certain professions for a period of one year.

"A few weeks ago, France decided to allow Georgian citizens, namely people with certain categories and professions, to be employed in France. Germany also made a similar decision earlier. This mainly applies to students who study in France and want to get professional practice. This will be a one-year period. The agreement also applies to people of certain professions and categories.

This is another step forward, which demonstrates France's desire to have bilateral exchange with Georgia at human and other levels. Our goal is to have fruitful cooperation with Georgia. Unfortunately, there are cases, when citizens misuse the opportunity of travelling to France and ask for political asylum on the grounds that they are IDPs in Georgia or have some problems. This damages the honest citizens who enjoy free movement. This is irresponsible behavior. We will try to regulate this by taking various measures together with Georgia. We hope that we will not have to take measures to bring the visa regime back. We do not want the honest citizens to be damaged," Pascal Meunier said.
