GD faces threat of losing majority

In case another lawmaker leaves the 115-member majority the “Georgian Dream” will lose the 3/4 majority in the parliament.

A day after MP Levan Gogichaishvili announced about quitting the Georgian Dream, another lawmaker Eka Beselia declared about decision to leave the party. Two other MPs- Gedevan Popkhadze and Beka Natsvlishvili also intend to quit GD, leaving the ruling party with 111 members in the parliament, which is not enough to keep the majority as Parliament needs support of at least 3/4 of the total number of MPs (113 votes) to make amendments to the Constitution.

According to the new edition of the Constitution, there is another rule, according to which the support of 2/3 of the total number of lawmakers is enough for making changes to the Constitution, however, in this case, the changes will take effect if the next parliament endorses them.
