Georgian, Uruguayan FMs discuss further deepening of cooperation

We are small states among big countries. In this regard, we have the similar challenges and aspirations, - Uruguay Foreign Minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa said after the meeting with his Georgian counterpart Davit Zalkaliani in Montevideo.

As InterPressNews was informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, the Foreign Ministers of the two countries evaluated the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia to the Republic Uruguay Republic as an expression of friendly and close relations between the countries. The Ministers praised establishment of close contacts between the legislative and executive branches between the two states in recent years and expressed their willingness to work actively to boost relations between Uruguay and Georgia.

At the meeting the Foreign Ministers underlined convergence of positions between Uruguay and Georgia on globally important issues and processes.

David Zalkaliani expresses gratitude to his colleague and Uruguayan side for support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and provided information about the Russian-Georgian conflict as well as about the recent processes in the occupied regions of Georgia.

At the meeting the sides focused on the development of trade-economic cooperation between Uruguay and Georgia and discussed the ways of active use of the existing potential. High interest was shown in the economic environment of Georgia; It was noted that the geo-strategic location and free trade agreements with the world's leading economies makes it attractive for international investors.

At the meeting, the sides discussed the possibilities of cooperation in various fields, especially in the direction of enterprise development, tourism, education and culture. High interest was expressed in the cooperation in the field of agriculture.

The Ministers welcomed the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Uruguay, which is celebrated in Montevideo by various cultural events. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia invited his Uruguayan counterpart to Georgia.
