Parliament approves draft law on rules of selection of judges

The Parliament of Georgia has today approved with its first hearing the amendments to the law on Common Courts, initiated by Chairman of Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze, MP Archil Talakvadze, MP Mamuka Mdinaradze, MP Anri Okhanashvili, MP Giorgi Kakhiani, MP Davit Matikashvili da MP Guram Macharshvili.

89 lawmakers voted in favor of the draft law and 31 were against.

The amendments to the Law on Common Courts set procedures and criteria for selection of the candidates for the Supreme Court judges, the qualification requirements of judges and the procedure for nominating candidates, selected by the High Council of Justice, to the Parliament.
