This is another lie to say that the Venice Commission's recommendations have been taken into consideration, - MP Eka Beselia said when commenting on amendments to the draft law on the rule of selection of Supreme Court judges.
According to her, only one recommendation relating to the qualification exam has been envisaged in the draft law.
"The only thing edited in this draft law is relating to the exam, which we had described as a barrier. The conflict of interest has not been considered by the ruling party. It is a lie to say that the took account the recommendation of the Venice Commission. The Commission said that if a candidate is a registered judge of the Supreme Court, he/she should not be a member of the Council of Justice, while according to the draft law, members of the Council of Justice are able to nominate themselves as candidates”, Beselia said.
According to her, it is incomprehensible why the Venice Commission was addressed, if the ruling party was not going to take its recommendations into account.
