Latvia will increase its contribution to the EU Monitoring Mission, - Latvian President Raimonds Vējonis told Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili during her official visit to Riga.
According to the press service of the President of Georgia, it was noted at the meeting that the EU Monitoring Mission is a very important tool and it is necessary the EU monitors to have the opportunity to monitor Georgia's uncontrolled territories. Latvia is represented by 7 observers in the EUMM currently.
The sides talked about the occupied territories of Georgia as well. Salome Zourabichvili thanked Latvia for its unwavering support for Georgia's sovereignty.
It was also noted that occupation is inadmissible and efforts should be made for the de-occupation of Georgia.
As Salome Zourabichvili said at the meeting, Georgia wants the partner countries to raise the issue of peaceful settlement of the Russian-Georgian conflict. Other topic of the meeting with the President of Latvia was the advancement of the Geneva international negotiations to a higher political level.
The sides also talked about Georgia's integration into the EU and NATO and underlined the importance of Latvia's support in this direction.
