IMF Managing Director arrives in Georgia

Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, has arrived in Georgia.

As InterPressNews was told by PM’s press office, Prime Minister of Georgia will host IMF Managing Directo today. Mamuka Bakhtadze and Christine Lagarde will hold a joint news conference Administration of the Government of Georgia. Within the frameworks of the visit, the IMF Managing Director will meet with the President of Georgia and the President of the National Bank of Georgia.

According to the Government's Administration, Christine Lagarde 's visit to Georgia is another confirmation that the International Monetary Fund supports reforms implemented by the Government of Georgia, including in the direction of the economic growth, education and human capital development.

"In 2017, the International Monetary Fund approved a new, three-year program for Georgia in the amount of 285 mln US dollars within frameworks of "Enhanced Financing Mechanism" (EFF). The program aims to ensure higher and more inclusive growth, control and disclosure of fiscal risks, strengthen monetary institutions and improve financial and social security mechanisms.

The "Enhanced Financing Mechanism" supports the economic reforms of the government. Georgia has completed three reviews of the program and continues its successful implementation, "the report reads.

Christine Lagarde has been serving as the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund since 2011. Having served her first five-year term, she was re-appointed in July 2016 for a second term.
