Educational Infrastructure Development Agency says paints, which are used for painting the walls of schools and kindergartens, are permanently checked

According to the Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency, the quality of paints, which are used for painting the walls of schools and kindergartens, are permanently checked.

As InterPressNews was told in the Agency, the evaluation criteria are set for all types of rehabilitation-facing materials, including façade and interior paints.

“The interior must be painted using environmentally-friendly, non-toxic paints. The marginal concentration of lead and volatile organic compounds does not exceed 1 g / l, which is 5 times less than the European standards (5 μg/l). It has quality and environmental certificates, indicating that it can be used in schools and other establishments for children, " the agency said.

Doctors do not rule out that painting the walls of schools and kindergartens with lead-containing paints is one of the leading causes of high blood lead levels in children.

Otto-Rhino-Laryngologist Khatuna Chitidze told InterPressNews that the World Health Organization says that the main cause of lead poisoning is exposure to lead-based paint.
