You need solidarity within the country. Democracy is for development and not for creating civil confrontations and wars, - President of the Council of Europe, Donald Tusk, said at a joint news conference held together with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili.
Donald Tusk welcomed the introduction of proportional elections and pointed out that all this contributes to the democratic development of the country.
"As for the elections, I welcome the ongoing processes, when the shortcomings observed during the previous elections are being taken into consideration and rectified. More attention to human rights protection and the fact that the government made a decision to conduct proportional parliamentary elections in 2020 contribute to the development of Georgia's democratic space, its progress, and I hope all will work hard to enhance this possibility.
At the Batumi Conference I talked about the necessity and importance of unity of Georgia. We think in Brussels that you should be hopeful for our solidarity. On the other hand, you need solidarity within the country. Democracy is for development and not for creating civil confrontations and wars," Donald Tusk said.
