Interior Minister about “borderization” in Atotsi : There is no any danger of escalation for now, the situation in Atotsi is under control

There is no any danger of escalation for now, the situation in Atotsi is under control, Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri said on Saturday.

The Minister said that the process of so-called “borderization” is underway.

“We know that the Russian-Ossetian side continues to do so. Of course, it is difficult for the local population. One month ago, they erected iron poles, today they came and brought grid fences. There's nothing special going on there, the situation is under control. Some reports said as if the representatives of our intelligence and special operational forces observed the situation there. Of course, it was absurd that no one of our Intelligence and Special Operational Forces was trying to cross [the administrative line]. We know that they violated and enter the territory, controlled by us, some time ago. The Security Service has informed the hotline, the EU Monitoring Mission, all international organizations about the renewed illegal process of “borderization”, the Interior Minister said, adding that there is no any danger of escalation. “We have full control over the situation”.
