Andrius Kubilius: Mono-majority, a super-majority can be used for undemocratic purposes

In light of recent developments, we can see a certain phenomenon in the Eastern Partnership countries that we can call an attempt to form a mono-majority, super-majority. Such a majority can be used for undemocratic purposes, - Andrius Kubilius, Co-President of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, told reporters while commenting on the ongoing developments in Georgia.

According to him, the proportional system would greatly balance the election results, which is very important.

“More proportionality will bring more balance, which is very important. We can see a certain phenomenon in the Eastern Partnership countries that we can call an attempt to form a mono-majority, super-majority. On the one hand, this helps to carry out some reforms, but on the other hand, in case of such a majority, there is a temptation to use it for undemocratic purposes,” Andrius Kubilius said.

He said that the committees' reports would be discussed during the Euronest session, one of which would be devoted to democratic governance, which "is very important in light of the political crisis in Georgia."

The 8th annual session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly is being held in Tbilisi, which will last until December 10.
