PACE members appeal against Russia’s mandate

Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe have appealed against the mandate of the Russian delegation to the Council. The issue was raised by Lithuanian MP Emmanuel Zingeris and was backed by at least 30 lawmakers, including members of the Georgian delegation.

"On behalf of my colleagues, I would like to question the mandate of the Russian delegation," Zingeris said, adding that Russia's return to the Council of Europe was not a right decision because of the occupation of Georgian and Ukrainian territories.

According to the rules of procedure of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the matter was referred to the Monitoring Committee for further procedures.
