Giga Bokeria to PM : We believe that there were political prisoners in Georgia and one political prisoner is still in prison

“We believe that there were political prisoners in Georgia and one political prisoner is still in prison, you do not consider them political prisoners. I just want to ask you : why you are not interested in closing this sheet?” - one of the leaders of the opposition European Georgia party, Giga Bokeria, told Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, who is delivering a report to Parliament on the works carried out by the government during the state of emergency in the country.

According to him, the government and not lobbyists should write letters to the country’s strategic partners.

“Apart from the pandemic, one of the biggest problems is the political crisis in our country. We believe that there were political prisoners in Georgia, one political prisoner is still in prison, you do not consider them political prisoners, you say that there was no agreement. I just want to ask you : why you are not interested in closing this sheet? This is considered disgraceful action, which is typical for authoritarian regimes. A lobbyist may advise you on how to speak, what strategy to have, but the government, and not lobbyists, writes the letters,” Giga Bokeria said.
