MEP Viola Von Cramon: It would be a wonder if Russia does not interfere and does not try to meddle into these next elections

It would be a wonder if Russia does not interfere and does not try to meddle into these next elections, MEP Viola Von Cramon at the second panel of the annual democracy conference (#GEODEM) organized by the Georgian Institute of Politics.

In response to a question of InterPressNews regarding the chances that the Russian Federation will try to interfere with the 2020 parliamentary elections in Georgia, the MEP said:

“It would be a wonder if Russia does not interfere and does not try to meddle into these next elections. It is what they normally do everywhere, not just in Georgia. And there is natural resistance, resilience in Georgia. There is a professional team working on this. And it has a lot to do with independent, critical media, giving them the space and potential to disclose this kind of narratives which are coming from Russia, but not only from Russia”, said the MEP.

Justin McKenzie Smith, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Georgia, Kelly Degnan, Ambassador of the United States to Georgia, and Christian Urse, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia, also took part in the conference.
