Salome Samadashvili: Georgia is in danger of international isolation - this is the message from Washington

The US Congress is taking an unprecedented step when setting up bipartisan sanctions against Ivanishvili's regime, - stated one of the leaders of the United National Movement, MP Salome Samadashvili, in response to the bill of House of Representatives.

As Samadashvili stated, "defeating Ivanishvili's regime in October as part of peaceful elections is a matter of vital fight".

"This means that when we have a grave economic crisis in the country and around the world, Ivanishvili's corrupt governance is still endangering what we are dependent on more than ever. I would like to state that throughout the 30-years old relations between Georgia and the US there has been no such precedent despite the fact that we've often heard critics about different issues from our strategic partners and allies. This is happening due to the unprecedented scale of corruption that Ivanishvili's established and that made it impossible to provide aid to people. Corruption eats up our future and aids which are allocated to us by the friends of our country. Defeating Ivanishvili's regime in October as part of peaceful elections is a matter of vital fight. We'll either defeat Ivanishvili's corrupt and autocratic regime or each of our citizens will await poverty while our country will be in international isolation. This is the message which we've received from Washington today", - stressed Samadashvili.

For the record, the House of Representatives bill states that $132,025,000 financial assistance will be allocated for Georgia. However, the document notes that 15% of the funds may not be obligated if State Secretary doesn't determine and report that the Georgian government is meeting certain conditions which include: strengthening democratic institutions; combating corruption within the government; ensuring the rule of law in the private sector. The document also notes that he withholding of funds doesn't apply to programs that support "democracy, the rule of law, civil society and the media, or programs to reduce gender-based violence and to protect vulnerable populations".
