Foreign Minister: European Commission report says that visa-free regime is not in danger

According to Georgian Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani, the European Commission report says that the country continues to fulfill its commitments and that one of Georgia's most important achievements - visa-free regime with the EU - is not in danger.

"This report is another recognition of the successful implementation of visa liberalization by the Georgian government. According to the European Commission, the Georgian government has taken important steps to prevent the illegal migration of citizens and criminal activity. It should also be emphasized that the report refers to the fruitful cooperation with Frontex and Europol," the Minister said.

According to him, the European Commission also positively assesses the measures taken by the Georgian government against the pandemic.

"It is important to note that the European Commission praises the effective measures taken by the Government of Georgia against the COVID-19 crisis, including the closure of the border and the declaration of a state of emergency. The report also emphasizes the return of citizens living abroad by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia to the homeland, noting that more than 13,000 citizens returned to the country in an organized and gradual manner,” Davit Zalkaliani said.
