The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has answered one request of the so-called cartographers' case lawyer, the other is under consideration and the answer will be given in the near future, - InterPressNews was informed by the Press and Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has received letters from the lawyers of Iveri Melashvili and Natalia Ilychova, requesting certain materials relating to the delimitation-demarcation of the border. The agency has completed the study of the documents on one of the requests and sent a response to the lawyer. As for the second request, it will also be processed and in the near future, in accordance with the request, the answer will be given within the timeframe set by law", - stated in the Ministry.

For reference, civil activists and representatives of opposition parties hold a rally in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the so-called "cartographers' case". According to the protesters, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not provide materials to the lawyers of Natalia Ilichova and Iveri Melashvili, which, according to them, may prove the innocence of the accused.

For the record, the General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia, in cooperation with the State Security Service, has detained Iveri Melashvili, Head of the Border Relations Service of the Department of Neighboring Countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, and Natalia Ilychova, Chief Inspector of the Land Border Protection Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. According to the Prosecutor's Office, the forensic report found that the defendants, in the delimitation process, were using the boundary lines drawn on maps issued in 1970-80, which is essentially contrary to the historical border of Georgia, including in relation to David Gareji.
