The registration Irakli Abuseridze, newly elected president of the Georgian Rugby Union, has been suspended

The registration of the newly elected President of the Georgian Rugby Union, Irakli Abuseridze, has been suspended. Bacho Khurtsidze, one of the candidates running in the presidential elections, addressed the Public Registry with a statement.

As it became known from the document published by the Public Registry, the reason for the suspension of registration is the repeated general meeting held in violation of the charter, which was supposed to be held no later than 30 days after the general meeting that broke down on February 24, 2020, but didn't take place due to the pandemic.

As the president of the Rugby Union, Irakli Abuseridze, told InterPressNews, the elections were held legitimately and everyone recognized it. According to him, the person behind it is the enemy of Georgian rugby.

"The elections were held legitimately. The chairman of the board, the congress, the representatives of the Ministry of Sports and the notary - all acknowledged that these elections were legitimate. There seems to be some flaw and we will see it from tomorrow, for me the arguments they have written are weak. We will see who is behind this, whether Khurstidze or someone else, I can directly tell you that he is the enemy of Georgian rugby. We have a qualifying year, the game against Russia is approaching and it is due to personal interests. If he could not accept the defeat, he could have announced it at the congress and raised this issue", - Irakli Abuseridze said.

For information, Irakli Abuseridze was elected President of the Rugby Union on December 30. He was supported by a majority of delegates with 31 votes. Gocha Svanidze, former president of the Rugby Union, received 10 votes.
