Giorgi Margvelashvili: “We need US active engagement to stop backslide of democracy NOW”

Former President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili believes that active US involvement is needed to stop the backslide of democracy in the country.

"Awaiting for Senate Subcommittee hearing on Georgia. 3 years ago I appealed to Congress to pass The Georgia Support Act and our good friends made it a bill. It starts with a call to protect and strengthen democracy. We need US active engagement to stop backslide of democracy NOW," Margvelashvili tweeted.

The issue of Georgia will be discussed at the sitting of the Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The hearing on "Bolstering Democracy in Georgia" will be held on March 23 and will be chaired by Senator Jeanne Shaheen.
