Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Davit Zalkaliani promises that during his tenure as Georgia's Ambassador to the United States, cooperation with the United States will reach an even higher level.
He thanked Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili for the trust.
"As you know, foreign policy is one of the main priorities of our country, it significantly determines the fate of the state, its daily life and future. As the Prime Minister told you, this year marks the 30th anniversary of my work in the diplomatic service. I think that through my activities I have made a significant contribution to the state building in our country, to the positioning of our country in the international arena. These 30 years have been very important and full of serious challenges," Zalkaliani said.
He said the leadership of the Foreign Ministry was a very big responsibility for him.
"I thank the team for the trust it showed towards me in carrying out this important mission. There have been many achievements in foreign policy, in European and Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as in addressing one of the main challenges of our country, which is occupation. I can boldly say that we have defended our positions very clearly in all international formats. We were represented everywhere, be it the UN, the OSCE, the European Union, the Council of Europe. Georgia has taken the leading position on all platforms," Zalkaliani said.
He wished Ilia Darchiashvili success in his position as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
