Irakli Kobakhidze: Pardoning Saakashvili is the President's prerogative - if Salome Zurabishvili chooses unrest over peace, society should evaluate it, I hope the President will not do it

Pardoning Saakashvili is the President's prerogative - if Salome Zurabishvili chooses unrest over peace, society should evaluate it, I hope the President will not do it - Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of Georgian Dream, said while talking to journalists.

According to him, the main goal of the people who demand the release of the former President is to create unrest in Georgia.

"The only thing that motivates these people, who talk about Saakashvili's release, inside or outside the country, is the interest in creating unrest in the country. You know that they brought Saakashvili to Georgia before the municipal elections for this very purpose and they want to release Saakashvili for the same purpose. This interest, of course, should be anticipated by society and they should draw conclusions based on it. If Salome Zurabishvili chooses unrest over peace, society should also evaluate this. I hope that the President will not do this," Kobakhidze said.

According to him, the opposition is actually not worried about Saakashvili's health and the only thing they are thinking about is messing up the country by releasing Saakashvili.

"When certain people pretend to be worried about Saakashvili's health, I want to remind everyone that these are the people who brought Saakashvili to Georgia to disrupt the country and who directly encouraged Saakashvili to self-harm," said the chairman of the ruling team.

According to Irakli Kobakhidze, the issue of transferring Saakashvili abroad for treatment cannot be a subject of political discussion.

"Transportation abroad is one form of release. On any subject related to the prisoner, the state agencies make a decision, and this decision cannot be political, and when the radical opposition proposes to make this issue political, it shows their attitude towards law and justice," said Kobakhidze.
