Irakli Kobakhidze on Nino Lomjaria: She was practically everything except the Public Defender

Chairman of Georgian Dream Irakli Kobakhidze states that Nino Lomjaria "was practically everything except the Public Defender".

According to Irakli Kobakhidze, Lomjaria "was actually completely involved in politics".

"Especially, in the last two years, when the radical opposition had a special effort to overthrow the government. Her agenda was entirely political. If you look at her reports, you will see that there is nothing at all in the human rights part, her agenda was entirely political - she interfered in foreign and domestic politics, made political statements, this will certainly not befit the Public Defender's institute", said Kobakhidze.

As for the possibility of a consensus in the direction of electing a new Public Defender, Kobakhidze states that "there is a chance".

"Let's see if the consultations will continue, and based on that, we will see how far it is possible to choose a new Public Defender based on consensus."

"As for the criteria, the criteria are, of course, competence, integrity, impartiality, and according to these criteria, the new Public Defender should be selected," Kobakhidze said, adding that "unfortunately, the current Public Defender had neither of these nor the other. And neither the third", which, in his estimation, is "very unfortunate".

Nino Lomjaria completed her term as a Public Defender today, December 8.
