Mzia Amaghlobeli's position is that she does not intend to end her hunger strike and does not wish to receive any type of privileges due to the hunger strike. Therefore, following necessary medical examinations, she demands to be returned to prison. This was stated by the Chairperson of the Georgian Young Lawyers' Association (GYLA), Nona Kurdovanidze, at a press conference.
According to her, Mzia Amaghlobeli's health condition currently requires monitoring in a clinical setting, and based on the doctors' advice, she remains in the clinic.
"Mzia Amaghlobeli has been continuing her full hunger strike for the 32nd day. According to the law, 'If a hunger striker's health condition makes it impossible to stop the strike in a correctional facility's stationary treatment or medical unit, based on the medical conclusion, she will be immediately transferred to the medical facility of the penitentiary department by the director's order.'
Initially, the medical documentation of Mzia Amaghlobeli was only handed over on January 31, 2025, following a delay by GYLA. After studying the documents, the need for further examinations was identified. The prison administration was informed about this on February 1, 2025. On February 2, 2025, GYLA additionally appealed to the Georgian Ombudsman, Levan Ioseliani, to form a special medical team to monitor Mzia Amaghlobeli’s health condition. On February 4, 2025, Mzia Amaghlobeli was transferred to the clinic for the necessary medical examinations. On February 6, 2025, the Ombudsman created a team of doctors, and the team members visited Mzia Amaghlobeli at the clinic and reviewed her medical documents. Currently, the expert group is preparing a written evaluation.
