Electricity consumer price not to increase till 2024 - Guram Chalagashvili

Electricity tariff will not increase till 2024, Guram Chalagashvili, head of the National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission, told InterpressNews.

He explained that this issue was approved by the commission’s decree, and it was defined by an agreement between the government and the "INTER RAO UES", which entered into force in 2011.

"According to the memorandum, tariffs will not increase at least till 2024. We might even think about decrease of tariffs if some calculations makes it possible", explained Chalagashvili.

As for the Resonance newspaper, which says that as per the agreement signed with the INTER RAO UES, price for electricity - generated by ‘KhramHes 1’ - will increase from 2,3 tetris to 8,2 tetris, while price for electricity - generated by ‘KhramHes-2” - will increase from 3,5 tetris to 9,4 tetris from 1 January 2014 till 31 December 2018, Chalagashvili said that this will not concern consumer tariffs.

‘This will concern just prices of electricity intended for export. This will not concern consumer prices in Tbilisi and Georgia’, Chalagashvili told InterpressNews.
