Ministry of Defense calls on each citizen to refrain from trying to involve armed forces in political or election campaigns

The Ministry of Defense of Georgia responds to the statement made by former military servicemen made at the Mukhatgverdi brothers' cemetery.

According to the Ministry of Defense, Devi Tchankotadze and the people accompanying him are former servicemen and have left the armed forces years ago. Consequently, the political statement made by them was aimed at misleading the public.

“They addressed the population wearing military uniforms, which was aimed at misleading the public. It is totally unacceptable for the Defense Ministry and state interests to use a military uniform for political purposes and to try to politicize the army. This action is harmful to an important institution, such as the Georgian armed forces and is insulting for each military person," reads the statement of the Defense Ministry.

The agency calls on each citizen and political parties not to try to involve the armed forces in political or election campaigns in any form.
