De-facto Sokhumi concerns over construction of NATO military airdrome in Georgia

De-facto foreign ministry of occupied Abkhazia concerns over the construction of a NATO military airdrome in Georgia.

"We are focusing on the fact that Washington's large-scale militarization of Georgia creates potential tensions in the Transcaucasia and it may eventually undermine peace and security in the region," the de facto ministry said.

According to them, the information about the construction of NATO Military Airdrome in Georgia indicates that Georgia and NATO are moving to a new level of cooperation.

“Tbilisi enhances military potential amid presenting its peace initiatives. At the same time, Tbilisi continues its course of international isolation of Abkhazia,” the statement reads.

US General Steve Lyons, a commander of the United States Transportation Command, and Georgian Defence Minister Levan Izoria have discussed the possibility of joint development of Vaziani military aerodrome infrastructure. Georgian Defence Minister Levan Izoria stated that the new aerodrome will support the initiative of the NATO-Georgia Commission-the creation of the new readiness centre in Georgia.
