Transparency International Georgia to appeal against the decision of the Central Eelection Commission

Transparency International Georgia is going to appeal against the decision of the Central Eelection Commission, according to which, citizens of Georgia residing abroad will be able to make their choice in the second round of the 2018 presidential election until 12:00 pm.

As Eka Gigauri, executive director of Transparency International Georgia, told InterPressNews, this decision contradicts the legislation.

"The Central Election Commission could have appointed elections so that not to create barriers for our citizens. Therefore, of course, I think they did not do their best to allow as many people as possible to participate in the elections.

As for the appointment of elections on Wednesday, it is not a violation, they had the right to do so, but they would not have chosen 28 November if they had acted in the interests of the public.

As for the closure of polling stations at 12:00, we think that this contradicts the legislation and we will appeal against this decision," Eka Gigauri said.

Georgian citizens residing abroad will be able to make their choice in the second round of the 2018 presidential election until 12:00 pm. The decision was made by the Central Election Commission on November 14. The decision is based on the fact that the second round is being held on a working day, which may be a hindrance for Georgian citizens living abroad.
