Pawel Herczynski: To activate dialogue, we are planning several high-level visits, including with the participation of EU institutions and 27 member states

We are in the process of developing the enlargement report, - the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Herczynski, said.

As he noted, their desire is for Georgia to be ready for EU membership, and this will bring benefits to both the EU and Georgia.

"Georgia is a candidate country for EU membership. We all celebrated this historic step together. The decision was taken unanimously by 27 member states, but in order for Georgia to become a full member of the European Union, it needs changes and these changes should be transformative. We want Georgia to be ready for EU membership, and this will bring benefits to both the EU and Georgia. That is why we need reforms.

Some reforms are not easy and require a lot of effort and everyone to work together, and in order to create a compass, a road map with a positive decision on candidate status, we have developed the so-called nine steps. These are the reforms that are necessary for Georgia to move towards EU membership.

We will evaluate the progress made between October of last year and October of this year, and the work is still ongoing. There are many positive elements. So we see the determination, we see the legislative initiatives, at the same time there are open questions where we have to sit down and talk. As the EU Ambassador to Georgia, it is my responsibility to ensure that contacts are as intensive as possible. To activate the dialogue, we are planning several high-level visits, including with the participation of EU institutions and 27 member states. We cannot waste time, time is precious and we are already in the process of developing the enlargement report that will be published in October, again with the recommendations of the European Commission, so that we can go to the next stage or wait. I sincerely hope that sufficient progress will be made to offer our member states the next steps.

Of course, there are open issues and we are very honest about them. This is quite natural. If we look at the nine steps, they include very serious reforms, including in such sensitive areas as judicial reforms. That's why we have to sit down, we have to talk, we have to listen to each other's arguments. Most importantly, the European Union also wants Georgia to become a member of our family, and all political parties in the parliament have exactly the same desire," said the EU Ambassador to Georgia.
