Shalva Papuashvili on the constitutional amendments: I think the public's support for this issue is obvious - the silence of the opposition shows that they do not have any criticism, they are the only ones who do not dare to support

I think the public support for this issue is clear and there is a quiet discussion. Among them, the reaction of the opposition, their silence shows us that they do not have any criticism towards this issue, the only thing is that they do not dare to support, because so far in this regard they have some fear and evasion towards those who give them their tasks, - said the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili while talking to journalists.

With this, he responded to the statement of the Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe, Dunia Miatovich, who noted that there is no place for "Georgian Dream" political manipulations and harassment of LGBTI people and human rights defenders in a democratic society.

According to Shalva Papuashvili, those changes, which are presented in the form of constitutional amendments and law, will be the subject of general discussion.

"I think it's important when it comes to our foreign partners not to bring too much emotion into this discussion." I think the discussion is going very well and calmly. I think the public support for this issue is clear and there is a quiet discussion. Among them, the reaction of the opposition, their silence shows us that they do not have any criticism towards this issue, the only thing is that they do not dare to support, because so far they have some fear and evasion towards their task givers. So the issue is quite clear. Those changes, which are presented in the form of constitutional amendments and law, will be the subject of public debate. The whole society will be involved in this issue, and of course, what the society will determine in the end is the rule that should be approved as a law in this country," Shalva Papuashvili said.

Speaking on the same topic, Shalva Papuashvili said that the discussion that is taking place in the society today confirms that people see these risks and the desire of the citizens of Georgia that these risks were insured, which is what the Georgian government is doing.

"The arguments are simple, the challenges that our country has and it seems that there is a trend in the world and it seems that these trends are changing in Georgia, it is important to establish in time what is the position of the society in relation to this issue, what is the framework in which we want our society and social arrangement to exist. That's why it's important to react to it right now. We see that there are countries where it has reached the point where high officials have to make speeches and political statements against this propaganda. These discussions have reached the point of absurdity, I will not repeat the quotes and examples that are there, but the society and the discussion that is taking place in our society today confirms that people see these risks, and the citizens of Georgia wish that these risks were insured. This is done by the government of Georgia, which represents its own people and ensures the pursuit of its people's interests," Papuashvili said.
