GeoStat: As of January 1, 2024, the population of Georgia equals 3 694.6 thousand persons

According to the GeoStat data, as of January 1, 2024, the population of Georgia equals 3 694.6 thousand persons, registering a 1.1 percent decrease from the previous year. It should be mentioned that 2023 resulted in the negative natural increase (-2 542) and negative net migration (-39 207).

As of January 1, 2024, 61.0 percent of the population lives in urban settlements. At the same time, approximately one third of total population lives in c. Tbilisi.

As of January 1, 2024, the share of persons aged 0-14 equals 19.5 percent, the share of the working-age population (15-64 years old) – 64.3 percent, while the share of elderly (65 years and older) – 16.2 percent.

As of January 1, 2024, the male population equaled 1 774.5 thousand persons, and the female population was 1 920.1 thousand persons. In Georgia, 48 percent are male and 52 percent are female population. The sex ratio, i.e. number of men per 100 women, equals 92. It is worth mentioning, that under the age of 40 the number of men exceeds that of women, while the opposite situation is observed for the age group of 40 and over, which could be explained by females’ higher life expectancy.

Compared to previous year, in 2023 the life expectancy at birth has increased by 1.3 units and equals 75.0 years, including 70.6 years for males and 79.4 years for females.

As of January 1, 2024, the median age of population equals 38 years.
