Prime Minister: In 2022, NGOs openly joined the campaign of the second front - in 2008, Russian tanks were brought to Georgia by exactly these people, and the statements of 2022 served exactly the same purpose

In 2022, non-governmental organizations openly joined the campaign of the second front - in 2008, Russian tanks were brought to Georgia by exactly these people, and the statements of 2022 served exactly the same purpose - Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze announced this at a special briefing held in the government administration.

According to him, non-governmental organizations were demanding the sending of volunteer fighters to Ukraine in 2022 and imposing sanctions on Russia, which would lead to a 10% economic decline in Georgia and involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

"In 2022, non-governmental organizations openly joined the second front campaign. In the first days after the start of the war, they demanded the imposition of sanctions and the sending of volunteer fighters to Ukraine with the approval of the government. This meant the collapse of the country's economy. We would have at least a 10% drop in the first year, which means our economy would lose several billion dollars. During covid we had -6.5% economic decline. Imagine what 10% would cause. Their goal was economic collapse.

As for the second request, sending volunteers, it directly meant the involvement of Georgia in the conflict. I will once again remind you of the famous phrase of one of their leaders, quoting: "Russia is losing the war in Ukraine, there are no resources there, so it cannot start military actions in all directions." We must do everything to use this window of opportunity." Now this particular leader brazenly talks to us about Russian interests.

In 2008, these people brought Russian tanks to Georgia, and the announcements of 2022 served exactly the same purpose. These NGOs, for example, never listened to the appeals of the high-ranking officials of the Ukrainian government regarding the second front. If the second front was not in their interests, then they should be condemned. I am sure that if the law on transparency of foreign influence had come into force, these organizations would have refrained from war propaganda and would not have put their donors in an embarrassing situation," said Irakli Kobakhidze.
