Irakli Zarkua: Such a resolution, which stands on injustice and is created by the friends of the torturers’ party, is worthless

Such a resolution, which stands on injustice and is created by the friends of the torturers’ party, is worthless - we are witnessing the devaluation of European values once again, - Georgian Dream MP Irakli Zarkua said while speaking about the resolution of the European Parliament.

According to him, in the fall of this year, it will be clear who financed and lobbied for the said resolution. As Zarkua notes, the country's third president, Mikheil Saakashvili, has 12-15 activists in the European Parliament.

"The MEPs have enriched the European Parliament with such pointless, groundless, argumentless resolutions. It is shameful, unacceptable, it has a zero price. I am sure that now that the resolution has been baked, we will find out who financed and lobbied for it, in the fall of this year, because they have to declare. They are acting like they did in the case of Saakashvili, they threaten Georgia and the Georgian people with visa liberalization. Who asks Kubilius? Nor is it their competence. Millions of resolutions were passed, they told us to release Saakashvili, otherwise they would not give us the status of a candidate. He is in prison, but we received the status. Truth always wins," said Zarkua.

For information, the European Parliament passed a resolution, which calls to consider imposing personal sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili. In addition, the European Parliament reiterates its call to the Georgian authorities to release former President Mikheil Saakashvili on humanitarian grounds and allow him to receive proper treatment abroad. The European Parliament also calls for a timely assessment of the impact of Georgia's planned "foreign agent" law on Georgia's continued fulfillment of visa liberalization criteria. The amendment approved by the European Parliament also talks about the draft law on LGBTQ+. In another amendment, the European Parliament believes that if the legislation is adopted, the European Union should impose sanctions on all Members of the Georgian Parliament who voted in favor of the draft law on transparency of foreign influence.
