Thousands of demonstrators turned out across France for new "yellow vests" protests, with dozens of arrests and clashes in Paris and other cities.It’s reported that 84,000 protesters turned out for round nine. up from 50,000 the previous week.

Scores of protesters later clashed with riot police at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, prompting volleys of tear gas and water cannon as security forces prevented them from reaching the heavily fortified Champs-Elysees.

The “Yellow Vest” protests began two months ago. The protests were initially triggered by the rising price of fuel. They have since widened to include anger at the cost of living, with a wide-ranging list of other demands.
