Independent experts to submit their opinion on election of judges to Venice Commission

Part of independent experts will submit their opinion to the Venice Commission today regarding the draft law prepared by Irakli Kobakhidze and the majority on the selection of judges of the Supreme Court.

According to lawyer Kakha Kozhoridze, the document focuses on several issues.

"Next week, representatives of the Venice Commission will arrive in Georgia to meet with stakeholders and study the draft law, after which they will prepare a report. We - independent experts - Ana Natsvlishvili, Ia Baqradze, Ucha Nanuashvili, Irakli Kordzakhia and Kakha Tsikarishvili prepared our opinions about the draft law and will send them to the Venice Commission today.

The main thing we would like to focus on is the general situation in Georgia. It did not start today or yesterday, it started years ago, under the previous government, which was controlling the clan dominating in the court system of Georgia”, Kozhoridze said.
