Energy Ombudsman’s Office hosts international conference

The Energy Ombudsman’s Office has hosted an international conference at the Stamba hotel today. The topics of the conference was the mechanism of protection of consumers’ rights in the energy sector.

The conference was opened by Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava, Chairwoman of the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee Sophio Kiladze and National Energy Ombudsmen Network (NEON) President Janush Gviazdovski.

Annette Jantzen, Secretary General of the National Energy Ombudsmen Network, also attended the event. Georgian Energy Ombudsman Salome Vardiashvili presented the 2018 report and talked about the problems and challenges in the energy sector.

According to the report, 5594 applications were registered last year, 4056 recommendations were sent to various companies, 682 motions were filed with the regulatory commission. As a result, 1 278 630,31 GEL has been written off. A total of 11 million GEL has been written off over the last 5 years.

The event was attended by representatives of the government and legislative body, local self-government and the NGO sector, as well as licensed energy companies.
