Investigation launched into Rustaveli Metro incident under article pertaining to violence on the ground of racial, religious, national or ethnic intolerance

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation into the incident that took place in the Rustaveli Metro yesterday.

Investigation is ongoing under the Article 126 (2) and Article 239 (1) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertain to violence and hooliganism on the ground of racial, religious, national or ethnic intolerance. The offense is punished with imprisonment of 6 years.

Physical confrontation took place between two young people in the Rustaveli Metro yesterday. According to the reports, during the conflict, one of the men was shouting that “A Georgian man should not be wearing an earring”.
