Georgia’s Defence Minister, NATO Secretary General meet in Brussels

The Georgian Defense Minister, who is visiting Brussels, where the meetings of NATO member and ally countries are underway.

As InterPressNews was informed by the Defence Ministry, Levan Izoria has met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and his deputy Rose Gottmiller.

The Defense Minister discussed NATO-Georgia cooperation issues and future plans with the leaders of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. According to Levan Izoria, the main emphasis was made on NATO's involvement in strengthening security in the Black Sea region.

"It was the goal of my last week’s visit to NATO Command, in Italy where we developed concrete, practical plans, how to take our cooperation to a higher level," said Minister Levan Izoria.

The Ministry informs that at the meeting the sides stressed the growing dynamics of Georgia and NATO cooperation, unprecedented reforms in defense sphere and exemplary progress achieved in implementing the NATO-Georgia essential package. The NATO side has reaffirmed its firm support for strengthening Georgia's defense and security sectors.

“Within the frames of the Defense Ministerial, Levan Izoria attended the meeting held at the level of Defense Ministers of NATO member and partner countries in the format of NATO's strong support mission and held meetings with the Defense Ministers of Holland, Romania and Sweden within the bilateral format,” the Ministry said.
