Freedom and independence are very important for Turks as well as for Georgians, - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Georgia, Fatma Ceren Yazgan, said at the April 9 Memorial in Tbilisi, where she paid tribute to Georgian heroes.
According to her, many people were killed in the attempt of a coup d'etat plotted by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) on July 15 of 2016. The Ambassador said that the Turkish and Georgia people, fallen for the freedom, were commemorated today.
“People were killed as a result of July 15 of 2016 night events, when the Fetullah Terrorist Organization and the forces supporting it plotted a coup d'etat. The Turkish Embassy [in Tbilisi] has marked this day and commemorated those killed on July 15. We have arrived at the Parliament and laid flowers at April 9 Memorial to underline that freedom and independence are very important for Turks as well as for Georgians. Many young people, who were fighting for freedom on April 9, were killed. Therefore we wanted to commemorate both our and Georgian victims. Because, the Parliament was bombed and people were killed during the July 15 events in Turkey, too. So, we would like to commemorate both the Georgian and Turkish people, who have sacrificed themselves for independence. The family of a riot police officer, who was killed during these events in Turkey, have arrived here and paid tribute to the Georgian heroes at April 9 Memorial,” the Turkish Ambassador said.
