US Ambassador : Georgia will become a member of the NATO and that, of course, means that Georgia has to do the hard work that will bring it up to NATO standards

"Georgia will become a member of the NATO and that, of course, means that Georgia has to do the hard work that will bring it up to NATO standards," US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan said in her interview with RFE/RL’s Georgian Service “RadioTavisupleba”.

According to her, Georgia has made a significant progress.

“Our decision on Georgia's NATO membership is unchanged. We are committed to the decision of the Bucharest Summit in 2008 - Georgia will become a member of the NATO and this, of course, means that Georgia must do the hard work that will bring it up to NATO standards. These standards are quite high and very precise. I think Georgia is well aware of this and has made significant progress, especially in meeting the NATO standards in the military field that NATO requires from all members of the alliance. However, it is also a necessary political part of NATO membership and there are very high standards and expectations. Georgia must continue to work to achieve these standards. The United States will continue to support Georgia and it is possible that we are our most fervor supporters, and we will continue to do so as we stand with Georgia in Afghanistan and elsewhere and we know that Georgia has the skills and commitment that isneeded to engage in international security operations, "said Kelly Degnan.
