The Holy Fire has descended in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, on the eve of Orthodox Easter.
The Holy Fire descended at 14:50 Tbilisi time.
Unlike previous years, only several representatives of different Eastern Orthodox churches were present in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. No parishioners were allowed to attend the ceremony.
The first records of the Holy Fire, which symbolizes the light that illuminated Christ’s tomb after the resurrection, dates back to the III century. The fire has been descending each Holy Saturday, on the eve of the Orthodox Easter, for many centuries.
