Giga Bokeria: Nika Melia neutralized the statements of other members of the United National that caused a serious inconvenience

Giga Bokeria, one of the leaders of European Georgia, told InterPressNews that Nika Melia neutralized the statements of other members of the United National that caused a serious inconvenience.

According to Bokeria, the party's representatives had previously made statements that were completely contrary to the agreement of the united opposition.

"Nika Melia has neutralized the statements that had created serious inconvenience. Other members of the United National Movement (not Mr. Melia) had recently made statements that were contrary to the spirit and agreement that we had. Gubaz Sanikidze, Zaal Udumashvili, Roman Gotsiridze and Nugzar Tsiklauri’s statements were completely opposite, saying that the first round does not matter, that there should be the second round, etc. They were like going to take a step towards breaking the agreement.

As for Nika Melia’s statement, if this is really fulfilled, I will only be happy. Today it is important for the country to reduce the risks under Ivanishvili's regime. It should be clear who will lose in the very first round, so that not to allow Ivanishvili's government to do anything stupid between the first and second rounds,” Bokeria said.

When asked if he feared the United National Movement might not keep its word, Bokeria said he would be "happy if that doesn't happen."

As for the agreement of other opposition parties on majoritarian candidates in Tbilisi districts, Bokeria said that the agreement is expected to be reached in a few days.

Nika Melia stated at the briefing yesterday that the United National Movement, as the biggest opposition party, would concede 6 out of 8 majoritarian districts in Tbilisi. He also noted that the latest statements about the UNM's intention to break the agreement were groundless.
